Dental X-Rays and the benefits of Digital Technology in Brookline, MA
As part of your complete dental visit, we highly recommend getting dental x-rays (also known as dental radiographs). A full set is 18 slides, which are typically administered to new dental patients or those needing extensive dental work. Depending on patients’ needs we may require additional x-rays every 6-18 months.

Dental x-rays help to locate and expose the following dental problems
With the dental x-rays, your dentist can understand what is happening in your mouth and locate the problem faster and with greater accuracy than traditional poking and prodding, which can be both painful and make for a longer dentist visit.
While some medical x-rays do give off a high amount of radiation, the amount of radiation received from a dental x-ray is significantly lower. The machines used for a dental x-ray use a high speed film, and we use a lead apron to cover the body. A full set of x-rays delivers 800 times less radiation than a chest x-ray you would receive at the emergency room.
Dental x-rays are advancing technologically as well. Digital x-rays are often available, with no need for film or chemical processing. Additionally these x-rays develop at a faster speed and further reduce the radiation level to the patient. Digital x-rays produce an image almost instantly (within three seconds) and can be modified to use color contrast, making them easier to understand for the patient. With the advent of digital x-rays, the patient becomes more involved in their dental healing process as they often see the image on the monitor while in the dentist's chair.
With all the technology advancing the dental visit experience, nothing can replace the traditional visit to Dentist in Brookline, complete with oral examination of the head, neck, TMJ and oral cavity. But the visit can be enriched with the use of digital dental x-rays to give a more complete picture and help you get on the road to a healthier and more beautiful smile.
